US and Cuba volleyball teams to play bilateral match in Havana

 

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 20 (acn) Two male volleyball teams from Cuba and the US will soon hold two matches in Havana as part of their training for Rio 2016 and to resume bilateral exchange practiced during the 1980s.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the president of the Cuban Volleyball

 

Federation Ariel Sainz, who added that such meets will include female teams next year, according to Granma newspaper.

The visiting US team won a ticket for Rio Olympic Games after garnering the gold medal at the World Cup, held September 2015 in Japan.

Cuban team director Rodolfo Sanchez said that the two matches will be very useful for the two sides, while the US players want to see how much the Cubans are prepared for the Olympics.

One of the two games will honor former volleyball players from Cuba who won the bronze at Montreal Olympics and at Canada 1976.
