The UN General Assembly Elects New President.

United Nations, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations General Assembly today elects in a plenary session of its 193 members the president of the 71th Session.

According to the geographical rotation applied for the position, Asia will provide the next president of the main deliberative organ of the organization, who will replace the Danish Mogens Lykketoft next September.

The new session of the Assembly will be installed on September 13, while the general debate will begin a week later.

In today’s session there will be also chosen the vice-president of the General Assembly and the heads of the six main committees of the body that hosts equally 193 sovereign states in the world.

The six working groups are: the First Committee (in charge of issues of Disarmament and International Security), Second (of Finance), the Third (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural), the Fourth (Special Political and Decolonization), the Fifth (Administrative and Budgetary) and the Sixth (Legal).
