The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the agreement reached today between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), as a result of which the process of exploratory talks between the two parties has successfully concluded, in which Cuba participated as an Accompanying Country.

This agreement will allow for a public forum of talks between the government of Colombia and the ELN to commence, which represents an important new step forward in the efforts to achieve peace in Colombia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates the trust that the parties, once again, have put in Cuba, on requesting that we collaborate with other countries in our region and Norway as a Guarantor, as well as providing one of the meeting places for the public negotiations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates Cuba’s firm commitment to continue to contribute in every way possible to achieving a final agreement between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army, as it has done in the process taking place in Havana with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army (FARC-EP), for the end of the conflict and to build a stable and lasting peace in Colombia.
